Message from the Chairman

Chairman’s Views

May I wish all members, supporters and friends a very healthy and happy 2012.

2011 seems to have slipped by very quickly. Although it was a relatively quiet year in terms of fighting local and county elections, nonetheless it was very busy and successful year for the Association.

Our membership is slightly up and incredibly our income from the events that branches and individual members have put on, increased two and a half times on the previous year. A very big thank you to everyone that worked so hard. Especially during a time of austerity throughout the county. It is an incredible achievement.

While many of our town and county councillors did not have to defend their seats last year, procedures are already in place in preparation for May 2013, Parish, Town and County elections. Geoff Penhaligan, Vice Chair Political, is working with our councillors on many issues, essential to ensure all our present councillors are returned. There are additionally new Conservative candidates wishing to enter local politics. With the sole aim of putting something back into their community and help to improve people’s lives. All will be fully supported in achieving their goals. I encourage everyone to get behind Geoff and his team to achieve a Conservative victory.

It is especially pleasing to see an increase in the young people that are joining our Party and already working hard for their community.  The number of Conservative Futures who joined from the local Universities, Colleges and Branches is another highlight for 2011.

However, although this year has been very good and encouraging, we cannot afford to be complacent. This year and for the lifetime of this Parliament, the challenges are immense and difficult. But mechanisms are in place that should assist us, as an Association to face them and secure a brighter future for this county. Conservative’s understand peoples concerns. It is Conservatives that will help people in their local communities achieve their aspirations, through working together and supporting those in most need.

I am also delighted to announce that the Association has a new Office Administrator, Julie Mason. Julie is based in our constituency office at Camborne. Already her professional influence and new ideas are influencing our administration procedures and policies. We warmly welcome her to the Association. No doubt you will have the opportunity to meet Julie at some of our events or meetings. Or why not drop into our office and say hello.

Two important dates for your diary. The Association Executive Meeting will be held at the Conservative Club, Camborne at 7.30pm, on Tuesday February 21. Please attend if you can. There are some very important policies and issues to adopt. Also on Friday 23 March, the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Conservative Club. Commencing at 7.30pm. May I remind Branches to notify us when they are holding their AGM.

Please look at the listed events that have so far been proposed for 2012. Once again a very varied programme put together by Rosemary Southwood, Vice Chair, Membership and Fundraising and her hardworking team. Also individual branches/members across the constituency, holding coffee mornings, bazaars, or fetes.

My thanks also to Roger Wilmer. His work with the branches and members has been time consuming. Involving many hours of work, that have certainly borne fruit, not only for 2011, but laid a strong foundation for the future.

Finally, the reforming of the Camborne Branch has been a great success. Many thanks to Clive Polkinghorne, Chairman and his committee for the work they have put in.

But among this good news, we should not forget those members and supporters that have unfortunately passed away, or those who at present are sick. May I pass on our thoughts and prayers during such times.
