 | Conservative candidate backs new school uniform in Camborne |
 |
George Eustice, the Conservative candidate for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle has given his support to the new school uniform introduced this year at Camborne Science and Community College.
Speaking after a visit to the school and a meeting with Principal Ian Kenworthy, George Eustice said that he believed the introduction of a new school uniform at Camborne School had been an outstanding success and that he hoped others would follow their example.
It was the student council at Camborne Science and Community College which led the calls for a new, smarter school uniform with a blazer and tie. Students looked in detail at the pros and cons of various options. The student led initiative has been a huge success and has now been widely adopted throughout the school far faster than expected.
George Eustice said, “The single most important thing in achieving success in any school is good leadership and a sense of pride. I think that a smart school uniform can help create a culture of excellence.
“The most interesting thing about Camborne’s decision to introduce a new school uniform is that the idea came from the pupils themselves and the issue was pushed by the student council. That is why it has been adopted so quickly and has been such a runaway success.
“The introduction of the new uniform is just one element of a new confidence within the school. We have seen some outstanding achievements in science and I have been really impressed by the work done to develop international partnerships with schools in Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
“Camborne has a proud track record when it comes to science and engineering and Richard Trevithick, Cornwall’s greatest inventor, could be proud of those following in his footsteps at Camborne Science and Community College today.”
