 | Conservative candidate makes town centre revival his priority |
 |
George Eustice, the Conservative candidate for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle visited the Redruth Information Exchange in Fore Street last week to see the work being done to develop an Action Plan for the town and to add his own contribution to the public consultation.
The Information Exchange was open from the 9th to 13th of February and around fifty local people a day visited the centre to discuss the future of Redruth. Alongside this CPR Regeneration have also been holding workshops with local businesses, community groups and local schoolchildren so they can give their own views about the priorities for the Redruth Action Plan, which aims to create a 20-year vision for the economic regeneration of Redruth.
Speaking after his visit to the Information Exchange with Redruth Town Mayor Barbara Ellenbroek, George Eustice said, “Putting together a coherent vision for our towns and then acting to bring that vision to life would be one of my most important priorities if elected.
“Why is it that major retailers like Next and M&S increasingly look for out of town shopping centres, rather than the high street? Can this trend be reversed? And if not, then should we re-think the role of our town centres by developing a new focus on leisure and entertainment with restaurants, coffee shops, bars and cinema?
“That is why I really welcome the initiative organised by CPR Regeneration in Redruth. When I visited the Information Exchange it was buzzing with people and ideas which shows that the local community are interested in playing their part to get these decisions right.”
The Conservatives are organising a Retail Summit in March which George Eustice hopes will also contribute ideas that can be applied to future regeneration plans for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle.
